Matatiele School Community: Inspirational Sport weekend

It almost felt like the old normal where we could gather without masked fear and learners could enjoy sports to the fullest. This past Saturday, King Edward High School hosted a sporting event organised by St. Monica’s Diocesan School where Focused High School, St Monica’s Diocesan School, Bergview Primary School and King Edward High School gathered on our grounds to compete. The mood of the day was jovial. Learners engaged in friendly banter; there was ample food and cooldrinks, and parents came in numbers to support their children.

Two hours away in Underberg a number of our teams were participating in the Ball 2 Berg festival. There they enjoyed fixtures against Kokstad Primary, Kokstad Junior, Underberg, St Patricks and Lynford. Thank you to Underberg for hosting this splendid event.

Overall, it was a pleasant and successful sporting weekend, winning 39 games, drawing 5 and losing 11. Many thanks to all our coaches (teachers, volunteering parents and former learners) for their hard work and dedication.

Ball2Berg results

Rugby; U7 won all 4, U8 won all 4, U9 won all 4. Hockey; U7 won 2, drew 1, lost 1. U8 won 3, drew 1. U9 won 3, drew 1. U10 lost their games. U11 won 4, drew 1 lost 1. U13B lost 4.

St Monica’s festival results

Netball; both the U16 and 1st teams won all their games against Bergview, Focused and St Monica’s.

Hockey; 1st team drew against St Monica’s and won against Bergview. U13A won their games against St Monica’s and Bergview. U16A won against Bergview and drew against St Monica’s. U16B won against Bergview.

Rugby; 1st team won 36: 0 against St Monica’s. Our U16A’s won 40:0 against St Monica’s. The U13’s were victorious against Bergview and St Monica’s, while the U11’s beat Bergview and St Monica’s.
