KEHS Interhouse Athletics - 2019

The first and second of August found the whole of King Edward High School, not in the classrooms, but rather out on the field of King Edward Park. Both days dawned icy, but the sun soon chased away the cold and the clouds. The houses, Graham and Melville turned out in droves – red and blue dotting the field and stands.

Quite a few records were broken, some of note were the U19 Girls’ discus, shotput and javelin records – all three set twenty-five years ago, and all three broken this year by Kayla Harris. Another long-standing record that Aaron Lombard broke was the U19 Boys’ discus record, set in 1966 by Eugene Hayes. Aaron added another five metres to the record – making a formidable record that may last longer than the previous one of fifty-three years.

Both houses raced, threw, jumped and fell for the upper hand, but all in all, when the sun set – Graham was victorious, once again, winning in both the Senior Primary and the High School. Melville however was not to be outdone – taking the Spirit Cup triumphantly.
