King Edward enjoys fine Athletics season

The cobwebs of Covid were well and truly shaken off during our short but intense athletics season. Once again the KEHS athletes performed admirably across all the disciplines.

The first meeting was the inter-house, where new records were set by Mvuyo Ngcaweni (U9) and Litha Zuma (U9) in turbo javelin, and by Oreboloke Moorosi (U12) and Sasha Harris (U17) in the 100m and Javelin respectively. Oreboloke’s record had stood for 33 years while Sasha broke her sister, Kayla’s record from 2018. Records were also set by the Melville Boys U6, U7 and U12 and Girl’s U8 relay teams as well as the Graeme Boys U7 relay team.

Age group winners were Cade Marais (U6), Niki Enslin (U7), Lunathi Minyela (U8), Ovayo Diko (U9), Zander Barnard (U10), Kiara Laing (U11), Oreboloke Moorosi (U12), Luyanda Shabalala (U13), Liyema Zozo (U15), Refengkgotso Setloboko (U17) and Devon January (U19).

The following athletes were Victrix or Victor Ludorums in their respective age groups: Kiara Laing, Zander Barnard, Luyanda Shabalala, Oreboloke Mooroosi, Olona Macingawana, Lehakwe Pheko, Refengkgotso Setloboko and Devon January.

The winning house was Graeme with 535 points versus Melville at 496. The spirit cup went to Melville.

The second event was the KC Evening Athletics meeting where our senior athletes shone particularly in the relay events.

Our Athletes made quite an impression at the KZN Christian Schools event, where new records were set by Snemihle Zongola in the Girls U15 Shotput, the Girls U15 Discus and Hammer throw and Reinhard Mulder in the Hammer Throw.

First places were also achieved by Ninke Marx G U7 600m, Tlhohonolofatso Letseka G U14 Shotput, Refengkgotso Setloboko G U17 High Jump and 100m, Lihle Nontwana B U15 Javelin, Porché Killian G U15 Discus and Hammer Throw, Reinhard Mulder B U15 Shotput, Discus and Hammer throw, Liyema Zozo B U15 200m, 400m and 800m and Trevor Mkathi B U17 Javelin.

The Fourth Athletics meeting was the Matatiele SP inter-schools, hosted by Bergview. It was a glorious day and well organized. King Edward High School won the event with a number of athletes best in age group and runners up: U11 G Kiara Laing and Talia Aarons, U12 G Letseka Phadimeho, U13 G Jayda Vezasie, U10 B Zander Barnard, U12 B Oreboloke Moorosi and U13 B Oratiloe Ramabille.

Kiara Laing was Junior Victrix Ludorum and Jayda Vezasie Senior Victix Ludorum.

The Final athletics meeting was the EG High Schools event hosted by St. Patricks. Once again King Edward won the event comfortably. The following athletes were recognized as age group winners (w) or runner up (r): U14 B Ziqhamo Silevu (w), U15 B Lithle Nontwana (r), U19 B Devon January (r), U15 G Faith Ntoate (r), U17 G Refengkgotso Setloboko (w), Sasha Harris (r), U19 G Thapelo Erasmus (r). New records were set by Sasha Harris in the Javelin and by the Open Boys relay team.
