KEHS PRESENTS “THE PIRATES OF THE CURRY BEAN”
Arrr me hearties, it was an amazing adventure for all of us: vision-cast the near impossible, dream big, put in the hard yards and deliver. What a privilege to develop young lives extensively and have a barrel load of fun doing it!
This was the epitome of holistic education, with lives permanently transformed from timid stage fright, to glorious effervescent expression, while dazzling the audience. The value of drama, public speaking, music and dance within a formal educational environment should never be underestimated. These are the refining facets of life, which ground and enrich us with cultural identity and permeate our souls with refreshing goodness. Furthermore, the extension of the skill set includes creativity, discipline, responsibility, time management, social skills etc. Together we pushed the envelope beyond what could reasonably be expected and the children enjoyed a massive boost to their self-esteem.
All 218 learners in our Senior Primary Phase had a role to play in the 6 performances presented to the diverse audiences who packed out the hall. The foundation learners enjoyed the high paced action and slapstick humour; High School groups roared with laughter at the sophisticated nuances embedded in facial expression, body language and, of course, the myriad of puns, while parents and grandparents beamed with pride. The original script was extended and contextualized to ensure greater South African relevance and the audience jived and sang along in blissful enjoyment. Congratulations to the lead actors and actresses who were quite simply brilliant in their execution – the product of natural flair and protracted training. Every child gave of their best and the collective synergy was astounding, considering the age-group involved.
Mr Harrison and all the Senior Primary educators are to be highly commended for their leadership and talents displayed in script-writing, coaching, choreography, music, prop-making, costume design and creation, lighting, stage-management and directing. What an extraordinarily talented and willing group of educators! Matatiele is blessed to have you developing our community.
