Albert Luthuli Oral History Competition

Eight of our History learners travelled to East London to represent KEHS in the Albert Luthuli Oral History competition. Our learners spoke with confidence and dominated the event. Abulele Sontangane came first in the Young Historian section, and Asma Siddhapuriya won the Story Writing category. Mr Ndlovu, our senior History teacher, was victorious in the Educator section. They will now represent the province in the National Competition. John Höll, Onkabetse Kwili and Mathabo Mapheele were placed second and Ntlantla January came third in their categories.

KZNCSSA Zonal Athletics Trials

Sixty-five of our athletes travelled to the South Coast on Saturday, to participate in the KZN Christian Schools zonal athletics trials. Our athletes performed very well and brought home fifty-two 1st places, fifty 2nd places and thirty-one 3rd places. Overall KEHS was placed in 2nd position.

Special mention must be made of the 9 records that were broken by our athletes. Oreboloke Moorosi broke the record in the 100m boys u/13, Kaleb Bouwer took the record in the 600m in the boys u/9 category, Junior Mncadi, the high jump record for boys u/14, and Refengkgotso Setloboko the girls u/17 javelin. Both Tumelo Tsabo and Bothwell Mhlanga threw further than the record in the boys u/12 discus and it was Tumelo Tsabo who took 1st place. Khumo Qhu, Ngcali Matheza and Luthando Mxhosa bettered the record for the u/13 boys discus, but it is Khumo Qhu who now holds the title. Khumo Qhu was awarded as the Boys Junior Victor Ludorum for his outstanding achievements. Congratulations to our athletes; you make us proud!

Amanzimtoti Rugby 7’s Tournament

Rugby, but faster - 7’s - the much quicker version of the game that we love! It requires more speed, better vision, finer ball skills, and much greater attacking ability than the traditional 15-man game.

The KEHS 7’s squad is participating in the annual 7’s rugby series hosted by various coastal and midland schools. These tournaments see some of the best 7’s rugby schools on the South and North Coast compete on a weekly basis. The past two weekends we played in two separate tournaments hosted by Port Natal High School and Amanzimtoti High School respectively. Once again, our boys had to “box above their weight” so to speak. We managed to deliver some very pleasing results, winning the majority of our matches and competing in the cup semi-final at Amanzimtoti.

Our boys are improving with each game that they play. We are extremely proud of the manner in which our boys play the game, always showcasing their fighting spirits, KEHS is holding its own as a side not to be underestimated against bigger, faster, stronger teams

Our netball girls played 3 games and won all 3 games. We beat MPS 22 : 1, Bergview 14 : 1 and St Monica’s 9 : 4. The final was a tough game against Bergview but we won 15 : 14. Our girls proudly defended their title and once again brought it home for 2023. Congratulations to Mateke Matsoele who was the top goal scorer of the tournament.
