National Inkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History Competition
The Department of Basic Education flew Faith Ntaote (pictured above) and Angel Hlatuka as provincial winners to participate in a prestigious event held in Benoni. The high-profile gathering, attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and the Minister of Social Development, was adjudicated by university lecturers.
Faith emerged as the National Champion in the Grade 11 Oral History Category, showcasing her exceptional skills and dedication. This achievement highlights her individual talent and the strength of our school’s commitment to excellence in education. It must also be mentioned that Faith won the National Nelson Mandela essay competition earlier this year.
SP Matat Schools’ Athletics
The SP Matat Schools Athletics event featured competition between KEHS, Bergview, St Monica’s, and Focused on 21 August. Our athletes performed exceptionally well, securing most of the individual awards. Kungawo Mafunda was named Best u/10 Girl, while Ovayo Diko claimed the title of Best u/11 Girl, with Mivuyo Ngcaweni as the runner-up. Michelle Moyo was the Best u/12 Girl, closely followed by Tamary Mandiwanzira as the runner-up. Kiara Laing was also a top performer, winning the title of Best u/13 Girl, with Talia Aarons as runner-up. Lubanzi Mbobo was the runner-up for Best u/10 Boy. Devonté van Vollenhoven was named Best u/11 Boy, with Azoma Mkolokotho as runner-up.
Ovayo Diko was awarded Junior Victrix Ludorum, Devonté van Vollenhoven received Junior Victor Ludorum, and Kiara Laing was honoured as Senior Victrix Ludorum. KEHS triumphed as the winning school of this athletic meeting. It was a pleasure to observe four disciplined and capable schools performing so well in healthy sport.

Soccer
On 19 August, our u/11 boys’ soccer team delivered a dominant performance against Focused School, beating them 5-0. Our boys excelled on the field.
Our 1st boys’ soccer team competed in the Bergview 1st Boys Soccer Festival on August 24, securing a penalty shootout win against Focused after a goalless draw. They drew with St Monica’s and Bergview but lost on a tight penalty shootout to KC, placing them second overall. James Akhosi and Luthando Zincume received awards for goalkeeper of the tournament and goal scorer respectively.
Boys Hockey
The u/13 New Hanover Boys Hockey Day/Night Festival saw KEHS deliver a series of hard-fought matches, ending in draws against Piet Retief, MSC, Athlone, NHP, and Nottingham Road, but losing to Eston.
The following day, the u/9 - u/11 New Hanover Boys Hockey Festival brought mixed results for KEHS. Our u/9 team managed a 2-2 draw against Eston but lost to Wembley, Wartburg, and NHP. Our u/11 team had a 2-0 victory over Piet Retief, lost to Wembley, Eston, and Lynford and drew against Wartburg.
