An Active Weekend: King Edward High School Sport Report
The hard, and partially relaxed, Covid-19 lockdowns of the last two years prevented school sports from taking place. Learners did not have opportunities to develop and train physically, and this impacted on them negatively. Teachers, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to see learners in various sport contexts and to get to know the students better outside the classroom. We are pleased that we are back to some level of normality and to see our learners and teachers participating in sport, and developing more holistically.
Athletics: U16-U20
King Edward High School participated in the Kwazulu-Natal Youth & Junior Championship in Pietermaritzburg on the 3-6 March 2022. Thirteen athletes gave their all and brought back 11 medals. The learners displayed commendable endurance and good sportsmanship.
We congratulate the following athletes: Rendani Mathoho (3 Silver medals in Discus, Shot Put and Hammer Throw U20); Reinard Mulder (Gold in Hammer Throw, Silver in Discus and 4th in Shot Put Boys U16); Buzzinski Saliwavikwa (Gold in 100m Hurdles and 6th in Long Jump Girls U18); Lihle Nontwana (Gold in Javelin and 4th in Discus Boys U16); Qhayiya Sapo (Silver in Long Jump Boys U18); Luthando Zincume (Silver in Javelin Boys U16); Advocate Matheza (Bronze in Hammer Throw and 5th in Javelin Boys U18); Trevor Mkhathi (Bronze in Javelin Boys U18); Refengkgotso Setloboko (4th in Long Jump Girls U18); and Ledia Seliane (6th in Discus and Javelin Boys U16).

Senior Phase Swimming Gala U13
Learners also participated in the Senior Phase Swimming Gala at Lynford. We are extremely proud of the positivity and courage shown by the learners at the Gala. They gave of their best and gained valuable experience and enjoyment.
1st Team Hockey
The first team Hockey Girls played their first game of the season at Suid-Natal on 5 March 2022. The team played three matches against Suid-Natal, Kuswag and Creston College. They drew all three games. Though this felt a little disappointing we are extremely proud of our girls as they showed endurance and played valiantly. The cobwebs of two year of Covid are being shaken loose.

1st Team Rugby
The First Team Rugby Boys played against Amanzimtoti on 5 March 2022. The teams were evenly matched in terms of physical abilities, strength, and resolve. Though our boys did not win this pre-season match, we are confident that they will gain momentum, skills and fitness as the season progresses. We are proud of their efforts thus far.
