SPORT AND CULTURE AT KEHS

The third term is now decidedly a soccer season, replete with soccer practices, fixtures, and games. The developmental work that began at the beginning of the term, especially with the first ever girls’ soccer team continues unabated. We are proud to report that the girls’ 1st soccer team won their third game against Southcity Christian Schools on Saturday, 3 September, by 1-0. The U16 girls’ soccer team unfortunately lost their game 3-0. At King Edward High School we are committed to establishing a competent and competitive girls’ soccer team, thereby playing our small role in transformation and empowerment.

The boys’ U16 and 1st soccer teams also played against Southcity. The U16 team won by 4-2 and the 1st team lost 0-1. Our soccer boys are gaining skills and experience with every fixture.

On 3 September, the U11 boys played against St Monicas and Bergview. They lost to St Monicas by 2-1 and beat Bergview 2-1. We are proud of these little ones.

The U13 boys also participated in the Bergview Tournament on 3 September. They played against Bergview, St Monicas, and Zamokuhle. The boys drew with Bergview (3-3), beat St Monicas by 3-0 and won 1-0 against Zamokuhle. The team won the U13 Bergview Tournament and returned triumphantly with trophies. Excellent work champs!

Last week our pupils took part in our annual Speech and Drama festival through SADASA (The Speech and Drama Association SA). This festival provides our pupils the opportunity to practice the all-important skills of imagination, confidence and communication by preparing and performing different poems and monologues individually.

We were delighted to see the effort our school teachers put into their Choral Verses and welcomed Bergview College to join us in the festival this year.  "If you can speak, you can influence, if you can influence, you can change lives. “- Rob Brown.

Our hockey boys travelled to Lynford Primary in Ixopo on Saturday, 10 September, to take part in their annual Country Weekend Festival. For some of our boys it was their first time playing on an Astro turf and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The U11s played 5 matches and ended with mixed results. They were pleased with their victory against Treverton Prep. The U13s displayed great teamwork and managed a fine set of results in their 4 matches; 1-1 vs KPS2, 2-0 vs Underberg, 0-0 vs Ixopo Primary2 and 7-0 vs Lynford2.  Thank you to all the learners, parents and coaches for a wonderful hockey season.
